I (along with three groupmates) studied historical articles, pictures, and other pieces of information about the Cuban Missile Crisis. We observed and analyzed pictures, historical newspaper articles, and other documents from during the crisis. After figuring out what historical event we were working with, we identified what threat the soviets and Cuba posed to the US. We analyzed the pros and cons for several possible solutions to keep the US undamaged, eventually landing upon a solution we all agreed with. We wrote a “letter” to the president explaining what our solution was and why it was viable, and also explaining why other solutions weren’t up to par.
This assignment challenged my communication skills and informational skills. I communicated with my group through the duration of the project, comparing and contrasting ideas civilly. We carefully studied pieces of information and figured out everything we needed to know to complete the assignment. Rather than splitting the work, we all studied the information we were given, then had a conversation about our thoughts.
I’m proud of this assignment because although I don't have the brain for history, I was still able to contribute to the assignment. My partners helped create a timeline for the Cuban missile crisis, and I helped them realize what the texts we were given meant. I will use the skills gained during this assignment in future group projects and historical learning.
